Now What??

20051003_0659 First, Jane wanted to see pictures of socks.

I’ve knitted more than these, really I have, but the other three pairs have been gifted to Mom, my sister, and my niece and are therefore unavailable for photographs.

The yarn for that Christmas gift came today. I’d show you pictures, but can’t. If the person for whom the gift is meant saw it, that person would immediately the gift was meant for him/her. So, I’ll just say that it’s here, and leave it at that!

Sprang, anyone? Check out what Cassie discovered this weekend . . . yet another fiber craft to explore. (Just what we all needed, right?)

img_20050920_0524_copy Oh, and I heard back from Knitty. (1) They hadn’t gotten my pattern submission, so I’m glad I asked, but more importantly (2) my pattern isn’t usable because they don’t do “religious” patterns. I hadn’t really thought that a hat shaped like an evergreen tree was really all that religious, but there you go! (Apparently I’m not the only one who’s missed that in the submission guidelines, so I at least feel a little better.)

Now what? I’ve gotten a lot of encouraging comments from a lot of you saying how much you liked it. (Although, part of me is saying, “They were probably just being nice!”) I could try submitting it to someplace like Magknits or some other magazine. Or, I could just put it in a nice pdf and offer it here. Either for free or for a few bucks.

What do you think??

  1. I think you need to knit more socks, LOL I ordered more sock yarn from Knitpicks today. I want to make a small shawl/scarf with the CTH you gave me, not socks.

  2. I love the evergreen hat and think it would be a big hit! I think you should try submitting it someplace else and if by November you do not hear, SELL IT on your blog. (Hey a few bucks extra over the holidays never hurts and besides, you took the time to put it all together, why not be compensated).

  3. The Christmas tree hat looks really cool!

  4. Religious on the evergreen hat? Not in my book. But if you’re interested in puttin the pattern out there, I’d say go for it! Do it yourself.

  5. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, your hair is beautiful!

  6. I say try to sell it elsewhere, it’s too adorable to not let the public get their hands on it. This is an un-biased opinion of course.

  7. Religious? What?!?

Grrr….this is one of my biggest pet peeves about our new “correct” world! It seems, at times, that in our desire to respect the traditions of other nationalities and groups, we divest the public sphere of our own national traditions. Sigh. I love the hat and want a pattern–submit it around and see who bites!

Perhaps we need a “religious knits” mag? LOL!

  8. You do have great hair.

Put it up there on your blog and charge a few bucks for it as a PDF. Then, sponsor a knitalong and give the pattern away for free to the first few folks who sign up. Trust me, it will generate lots o’ interest. Especially when your friends join up and blog about it.

  9. a religious pattern? ridiculous! so silly.

and i agree with everyone else, submit elsewhere like magknits or else put it on your blog – it’s too fun a knit to not be shared with everyone ;)

  10. I love the socks! What a great gift. The Yarn Harlot has a great chapter on why gifted socks are the best expression of love. Your family and friends are so lucky to receive such wonderful socks!

  11. Maybe you should try MagKnits? I think it’s a really fun hat.

  12. i’ve noticed that no one has chosen the option of stickign it in a drawer, lol. i do have a favor to ask. did you do birch earlier? i can’t recall. if you did, do you remember where you got the pattern? i’ve been gifted with 3 balls of kidsilk crack (i mean haze) and i wanna do birch! i’ve already posted comments on the harlot & claudia’s blogs, and don’t knwo quite where else to look, since my google only brought up blogs, lol.

  13. looks like a cute pattern — i agree that you should try magknits then maybe sell it here. magknits seems to be publishing more frequently, and this looks like an excellent winter knit!

  14. Thanks for the comment about my selflessness with the chocolate cake. It’s a tough job tasting cakes, but someone’s got to do it.

Christmas tree = religious??? Political correctness gone mad, I’d say.

    Love the socks.

  15. This made me think of a conversation we had earlier in the week: http://www.nanowrimo.org/

  16. Two comments. 1) I can see why they say its religious because its an icon associated with a Christian festival. 2) However, that said I do agree that we “surrender” too much in the name of PC when quite often those we are doing for in order not to insult them are not worride in the first place!
