Honors
My niece was inducted into the National Honor Society today.
Isn’t that wonderful? I am SO proud of her!
My parents went to the ceremony, but I stayed home with Chappy and wheezed. I even tried some of Norma’s Elderberry Syrup . . . which . . . yuck! For something that sounds like it’s going to be so tasty–or at least not disgusting–blech! Worse than cough medicine. (Sorry, Norma.)
I also spent some time in the bathroom with the shower running. Drank some honey-lemon-brandy tea. Sucked on some Fruit Breezer cough drops. And basically . . . wheezed all day. I never had any problems with asthma until last winter when I had bronchitis, but every now and again, now, the occasional asthma-like symptoms. Today was unusual. And no, I have not been to the doctor–they’d just prescribe medicine and I hate taking medicine–the side effects usually feel worse than the symptoms. I know all the arguments for going anyway, really . . .
The good news? I finished the other front of my cardigan. I’ll start the sleeves tomorrow. I just LOVE how fast this sweater is going! (I mean, compared to the USMP, anything would, right?). And I’m almost up to the heel on my Jaywalkers. So at least there’s knitting progress, even if I don’t feel like I accomplished much of anything else today other than reading. (Randall Garrett’s Lord Darcy stories–murder mysteries in an alternate universe where the Plantagenets are still in power and magic actually works.) I didn’t get around to wrapping my Dad’s birthday gift, though (bad me!).
Lastly–Risa’s got a new family member. Just look at that adorable little face! I wish them a happy, healthy, wonderful future together.

Tannenbaum.
House Calls

Are you kidding? You didn’t like the taste? What brand did you get? Man, everybody loves it that I know, and that includes my nephew who is Mr. Picky-pants and won’t eat ANYTHING. So I’m wondering if you got extract and not syrup? Sorry you’re feeling awful. Hope it gets better soon.
Congrats to your niece!
So sorry about the wheezing – I hope you feel better soon

Norma recommended the syrup for me mum, who was quite ill with a hacking cough. Within a day of dosage, the cough was gone. She took the rest of the bottle (280 ml) and hasn’t been sick since. The moral? TAKE YOUR MEDICINE!
Sorry you’re not feeling well. And isn’t Risa’s new kitty the cutest thing? Congrats on your niece’s accomplishment, too.
As lifelong wheezer, I’ve long known that ice cream of any flavor makes me wheeze, but especially chocolate. It does the same to my son. One shot of albuterol from the inhaler usually clears it right up, though. I hate that stuff, but it’s a hell of a lot better than wheezing constantly.
Debbie, I’ve enjoyed reading your Blog for some time now and especially enjoy stories about Chappy. One of my 4 dogs died in Dec and two will leave in Aug with their Mother, my daughter. So I’ll only have 1 dog, my 12 yo Springer Spaniel. I’ve been researching Boykins (because of Chappy) and there are two female puppies available in W VA. Could you contact me so I could ask a few questions? Thanks.
Hope you feel better soon!
Even if you are generally in good health, please don’t take asthma-type symptoms lightly. Its a situation that can turn bad really quickly. The paramedics I’ve dealt with say they would rather have a heart attack patient than an asthma patient, because asthma is so unpredictable. It really can’t hurt to have a rescue inhaler of albuterol on hand for the occasional wheeze or short-of-breath episode. Please reconsider seeing a doctor about it. Wishing you get well soon -
