Equally Wet Sunday
It was, really, just as wet today as it was yesterday. Which is to say WET!
Well, here, anyway. Not only are there plenty of bloggers out there who had lovely weather today (you know who you are), but even around here . . . my Dad got to golf this morning and said it was perfectly dry, and yet here at the house, it was teeming so hard the gutters were overflowing. What a difference a dozen or two miles makes!
But, ultimately, I spent today pretty much the same way as I spent yesterday–on the chair in the dining room window with Chappy, reading. In fact, I got very little knitting done. Four rows on my Peacock stole, about two and a half on my Green Gable, and almost the rest of my Trekking sock–just another inch of ribbing and some heel surgery for that little, um, mishap in the movies, and that pair is done.
The really remarkable thing is that will be the sixth pair I’ve finished this year. That’s a pair a month, absolutely unheard of for me!
Now, a little “sad” story with a happy ending (the best kind).
While Dawn and I were at Anthropologie on Friday, and she was trying on all those lovely clothes, I wandered into the “sale room” and picked up this skirt–the only one in the room, and in my size. I tried it on and loved it, even though it’s really not my usual style at all. But it was pretty, and feminine, and flowy, and a full-circle skirt, which meant it had just the right amount of twirl.
Except, it had been put in there by mistake, it wasn’t actually on sale, and therefore did in fact cost $118. A price which I could not justify at all, not for a skirt I really wouldn’t wear that much, no matter how much I loved it. So, sadly, I left it behind.
But, last night, I checked the Anthropologie website and found this skirt, on the right. Almost as pretty, also a full-circle skirt, and even better–on sale! Half the price of that other one. So, I ordered it. Because, well, don’t I deserve a reward for bypassing that really expensive skirt??
You know, really, I’ve got to say I love the things they sell at Anthropologie (even if I’m too short and round for many of them), but la, those prices! Some of it, sure, is worth it for workmanship or what have you, but other prices? How do they sleep at night?

Tannenbaum.
House Calls

A long……long time ago I worked in the garment industry in NYC…..for Hardie Amies, Div of Genesco…..for those who may recall…..and a few other firms……and learned about the pricing…..it goes like this: make it at X….move it to store at X x 2…..sell it at X x 3……ok?….so figure it costs 1/3 to 1/4 less than the price ……and that makes the world go round….which is why I like knitting: don’t look like everyone else, lasts longer (thinking of your Celtic Dreams), and it is PRICELESS!….am feeling silly on Sunday…and yes, hit the 100 + degree mark for fourth day in a row…..eck!
Um, yeah, ok, so we had gorgeous weather today - but it was terrible yesterday! It rained and rained and rained. Definitely you deserve a reward for resisting the expensive skirt.
I’m impressed. I could never have resisted the urge–would have guilty, but would have purchased. I love the alternative skirt! Looking around does pay off:)
Yes, wet. Very wet.
I have so much trouble in anthropologie . . . I love their clothes, but the prices are so hard to justify unless they are on sale! Never been to the one in Short Hills though the corporate HQ of my company is right down the street!
I like the print on the one you got on sale better anyway.
I’d be most happy if you’d send some wet weather my way - we really, really need some rain. I am always amazed at the prices Anthropologie charges for things, but yay for getting a cute skirt on sale!
Wet indeed. Tired of it already! Praying for nice weather for the holiday weekend as we go for 4 days on the boat to Kingston. Good for you on passing that skirt and I like the sale one better too. I did a little clothing shopping myself on Friday, discounts are a good thing. Looks like you had a great time on Saturday. Give Chappy a scritch from me.
Glad you found a reward for passing up that first skirt — a second skirt! It is really pretty.
It rained all weekend here and is still drizzly and gray, so you have my sympathy! And by the way, I *love* your current library total. A girl after my own heart!!
The skirt is so cute! I went to Eddie Bauer yesterday and almost fainted at the prices. Unbelievable.
anthopologie just rips you off. They are the parent company to urban outfitters, the same company who will thrift crap and re-sell it for 60$ calling it vintage. They also blatenly rip designers off. Such as ripping off Johnny Cupcakes T shirt designs down to the T.
circle skirts flatter anyone’s figure. no matter what size you are. They are the only kind of skirt i wear, and i don’t wear shorts in summer i wear circle skirts! check burlington coat factory all the time. you can find really nice skirts there for 20$ and less.
