Pogue-ing Around

Cape Pogue Lighthouse. One of the last wooden lighthouses in the world.1030388_img  The stairs going up to the top of Cape Pogue Lighthouse, on Chappaquiddick. (I stretched out on the floor to take this picture–just couldn’t get the angle right any other way.)

1030367_img_1  Their curve mimics that of the Nautilus shell. (They keep a handy sample at the lighthouse to show people.)

1030372_img  Here’s the view from the top of the lighthouse, facing back toward Edgartown.

1030379_img  Here’s the actual light–powered by a tiny little lightbulb (think “candle”), which this casement refracts and reflects to make it big enough and bright enough to be seen from a distance.

    Ahhhh, “my” lighthouse. Love the stairwell shot. It has since gotten a fresh coat of exterior paint, so doesn’t look so raggedy from the outside. Some of the best views around from up there.

    I absolutely love old lighthouses. Aren’t they wonderful? The staircase in that one is fabulous!

    I’ve been scuba diving with chambered nautilus (nautili? nautiluses? what is the plural of ‘nautilus’ anyway?). They’ve got to be the coolest animals ever.

    The Fall issue of Gun Dog has the Boykin Sp. featured. Probably not your usual reading, but an interesting article anyway.

    If your local mega-book store carries mags, they might have the issue.

    To be honest, I only even noticed the mag. & article because of Chappy.

    What a great photo – definately worth lying on the floor to get that shot. I grew up back east and it is so fun to see the photos from that area :-)
