Pause
Just a couple things.
I finished the first of my two socks. I’d show you more, but I actually have Plans for this pattern, so a peek at the toe is all you’re going to get. Yes, it’s a contrasting color. I even, in fact, used reinforcing thread to give it extra strength (ooh la la!). The main yarn is Cherry Tree Hill Supersock in “Indian Summer,” which was gifted to me by Shelley back in April. The contrast? Some Koigu that I had in the closet. I thought the colors looked really well together.
Meanwhile, I’m trudging along on my Peacock Stole Part Two . . . I’ve been working for months and I’m only on row 87 out of, what, 250? As much as I love this pattern, and love the idea of making a rectangular version of the triangular original . . . I’m ready to be done with this now . . . and yet, there’s no end in sight!
Oh! And the roving I showed the other day, that I said I was disappointed in? Teyani (about whose customer service I really had no doubts) offered to exchange it for a ‘darker’ batch, which is great. Pretty though it is, I do so hate being disappointed, don’t you?
Did any of you see this article in Publisher’s Weekly, about the slowing down of the knitting trend? (Huh. Obviously the writer doesn’t know any of us.) Although, actually, I thought it was a fair, well-balanced article, focusing on the slow-down in knitting-book purchases in the last year. Well, sure . . . there just aren’t enough really good, new knitting books. I mean, there have been some great ones this year (the Harlot’s, Wendy’s, Mason-Dixon . . . and I’m eagerly awaiting Eunny’s), but once you have a reasonable knitting library, there’s only so much to buy. (Some, of course, would say that my knitting library is UNreasonable, but, what do they know?)
Also, on an important-to-me note, today would have been Katy’s birthday. She would have been seven today. I could really use a cupcake, too. Our favorite nickname for her was “Katycakes” and for some reason, it just seems like there should be cake today . . .
Is it strange that I still miss her so much? Lord, look at those eyes she had! Amazing, really–same breed as Chappy, and yet her face looked so different. Not quite so rounded, she had that “triangle” of fur down her nose. She kept her hair neat–no topknot on the top of her head. Fewer curls than Chappy. Oh, she was so pretty . . .
But don’t tell Chappy I said so. He gets just a little jealous when I talk about her….

Tannenbaum.
House Calls

Yes, the article was attempting to be balanced but I guess my conspiracy theory hat got me wondering what life would be without my LYS. The article should have been titled “the end of craft books” or some such…
I have an idea, at Rhinebeck, we can all do a “we are the world” like video and promote this fantastic craft community we have here and ain’t no bubble gonna burst it either!
That Teyani! I knew she’d come through for you. I’m sorry you still miss Katy but I do understand.
I’ve got that issue of PW on my desk right now. It keeps getting passed to me even though I’m not on the routing list. Wonder why?
The sock looks very autumnal - nice warm colors.
Hm…….sometimes a writer is told to slant a story or have it be what the editor wants (as in “I don’t knit so make this fad go away”)……so take that Publisher story with a grain of salt…….sorry about Katy….and why not have cupcakes to celebrate…..Chappy looks like he would understand…..as for books…..it would be great to have a reprinting of Alice Starmore’s books…..just saying!
Katy was a very pretty dog - and Chappy is very handsome in his way :o) It’s not strange that you miss her at all - I still miss dogs that have been gone for 20+ years.
I love the colors in those socks and I’m glad Teyani came through! :o)
I think many people still miss there animals years after they are gone. My other dog has been dead about 6 years now and there are still moments where I miss her. Especially when I look at the dog I still have. They were sisters from different litters, and Sandy (current dog) is now older than Shelby lived to be. (She got hit by a car)
Awesome that Teyani is going to fix that little disappointment of yours. Cool.
Love the peek at your sock. So, how do you like the Cherry Tree Hill sock yarn? What a sweet thing Katy was. Hugs to you and to Chappy. Don’t want him to feel left out.
Oh, and no, I don’t think it’s possible to have too many knitting books. I’m down by all the latest ones, and sorely in need… Well, I don’t know if “need” is actually the correct word here, some would argue it, especially after looking at my knitting library, most of which I have yet to knit from, but c’mon. I need them. I do! LOL
I love the color of your socks! I was gifted some Cherry Hill in a very similar color as well and seeing your sock makes me want to cast on :-).
Of course you miss Katy, she was such a lovely girl….such incredible eyes! I lost my Dancer 3 years ago and I still miss her very very much, even though I have a houseful of dogs. Each one touches our heart in their own way.
Not strange at all. I still miss my beloved cat, Tiger, who I lost in ‘99, and his companion, Stripe, who I lost 6 months later. Both of whom were MY very first cats as opposed to the family pets. Pets insinuate themselves so deeply in our lives and hearts that they really are never gone. Katy was a beauty and Chappy is handsome.
Pretty socks, look forward to seeing the whole thing.
Oh I hate it when rows and rows loom before oneself. That is kinda why I liked the Mystery Stole So much was that I didn’t have any idea in the beginning how long it actually would be. But I bet Peacock is unbelievalbly beautiful.
I don’t know why, but the mention of Katy’s birthday is almost making me cry. She was a beautiful dog and so young. Have cake and remember all the good things. The sock looks great - I can’t wait to see more.
I can’t wait to really be able to see the socks!
Bless Katy’s heart, she was a beautiful dog. And, I don’t think you ever get over loosing a loved animal.
Of course you miss her! *hug*
I know what you mean about knitting books - so many of the books coming out are just more of the same same same stuff. *yawn* I’m looking forward to the more substantial books, too.
OH
Katiecakes was stunning. No I dont think it is odd that you miss her so much. NOt odd at all. THese dogs are such gifts to us. Not missing them,
now that would be odd.
