Pity Party

No real entry tonight. I went to the dentist this afternoon for what SHOULD have been an hour’s visit to get my two, new, permanent crowns cemented in. But . . . two hours later, I’ve still got the temporary, and there are at least two more visits ahead of me. My dentist wasn’t happy with the way the one in the back was fitting. He said that if I were leaving tomorrow for a year-long trip around the world, it would have been fine, but since I’m not . . . he wants it as perfect as he can get it. Oh joy. I love my dentist (not like Marcia Brady, you understand, but he’s just a genuinely nice guy), but really, I don’t want to see him THIS often. And I told him that I absolutely refuse to come during my vacation in October or on my birthday at the beginning of November–although he’s welcome to come visit at the house any time. (My parents love him, too. Well. . . you know what I mean.)

Anyway, so with the two hour visit, Chappy didn’t get out for a walk at all today, and he got a late supper–not to mention all that worry about where Mommy was, and why was she at work for so long, and, the “Mommy! You’ve got dentist breath!” inspection when I got home . . . and, really, I need to go sit back and relax with him.

Maybe I’ll eat a banana while I’m down there. You know, for dinner . . . Have I mentioned that I hate novocaine??

  1. What a bummer, but in the long run, you’ll be happier to have a god fitting crown!

  2. Bummer! Feel better soon and be happy he’s giving you what you pay for :o)

  3. Oh, I’m so sorry for the dental trouble. I break out in a cold sweat at just the thought of having a crown. Best of luck to you! I think it must be a good dentist to insist on a perfect fit. I’m told they should last at least 20 years if done properly.

  4. I’m glad your dentist is conscientious. My husband got a bad crown and it popped Vicodin for a year until it finally wore down.

Laughed at the Marcia Brady comment!

    Get well soon!

  5. Been there, done that. One of my two new crowns caused me great trouble. My dentist offered to take it off and try it again, but I declined. (I had to have it filed down THREE times before my bite stopped giving me headaches.) The fit is technically fine, according to the x-rays, but it doesn’t feel fine.

In my case, the worst part was that I had a long chat with the assistant, who kept referring to her husband Jim as if I was an old friend of his. When I finally asked what her husband did for a living, she looked stunned and said, “Um. He’s the governor.”

True story. You gotta love Vermont.

  6. gee, i had to visit the dentist yesterday, too. thank god it wasn’t for me! my youngest had a small cavity filled.

and yes, i hate novacaine, too. I’m particularly sensitive to it, and it takes anywhere from 4-6 hours to wear off. so if i have a late afternoon appointment, i get a shake for supper, blech.

  7. Sad - I’m still nursing a crown that is sitting on top of a tooth that had three root canals done. Ultimately, I think the tooth will have to be pulled anyway because it still hurts! Hope you’re feeling better soon - and walk Chappy twice today!

  8. Ouch. My last crown required a couple of extra visits as it just wasn’t sitting right either. Better the extra visit though than the discomfort in a malfitting crown. Hope it is over soon.

  9. Someone who wants to get it right instead of just getting it done is to be treasured.

  10. I’m with you. I abhor novocaine and similar drugs. Abhor them. I, too, think my dentist is a great guy. Love the gals that work for him, too. But I sure don’t want to see him very often. LOL Hang in there, gf. I feel your pain. :-(
