Can You Say Fabulous?
So, my friend Cindy and I went shoe shopping today, at DSW, and . . . even though I don’t know WHEN I’ll wear them . . . I bought these.
I mean, how could I leave them there? They are absolutely fabulous?
F.A.B.U.L.O.U.S.
Who cares if they’re impractical and that I really don’t have any place to wear them, since I don’t wear heels to the office.
(You know you do.)
(Who said, knitting blog or not, that I can only post yarn-like eye candy??)
Yes, that’s a velvet stripe at the toe.
To be honest, I didn’t expect to love these so much. I had just finished saying to Cindy how I really don’t like shoes with more than, say, a 3″ heel, but one of the fun things about stores like DSW is that it’s easy to try on pretty much anything you see, so when we saw these, we both went, “Oooh,” and I tried it on solely for kicks. But then I glanced down . . . Oooooohhhh . . .
To my credit, I did buy this very practical pair of Sketchers that will be great for taking Chappy for walks. Not only were they nice and they matched my outfit perfectly, but they (unlike the ooh-la-la pair above) were on sale.
And besides, Cindy spent the same amount of money as I did . . .
Actually, after the shoe store, we went over to Borders, and she actually spent MORE than I did. I can’t remember the last time that happened!
Although, I got a deal there, too . . . three books for the price of two. And I’ve wanted to read Team of Rivals since it came out in hardcover. But . . . it’s heavy enough in paperback . . . there was no way I was going to buy that in hardcover (grin).
Oh, and I promise that I paid for everything this week.
Now, two other things.
One, let’s give a hand to Amanda over at Clothesknit for being a fabulous KAL hostess. Not one, but TWO people participating in the Yarn Aboard contest dropped out and just stopped returning emails, which I think is a really shoddy thing to do. (Okay, unless it turns out that they were run over by a bus or something, in which case, well, I guess they’re excused.) But otherwise? That’s just . . . uncivilized! But Amanda? She rocks, because she went out and bought the two people who SHOULD have been getting the missing boxes new, wonderful gifts herself to get things back on track. How great is she, huh?? Go tell her what a nice person she is, okay?
Two . . . the moment you’ve all been waiting for . . . Can we have a drumroll, please? . . . the Winner of the Calendar contest!
Although, first, let me just say thank you to everybody who participated. That post has 119 comments on it, and there are about 20 others scattered through other posts this month. And I’ve seen calendars floating around blog-land by people who never actually left me a comment to be entered in the contest. So–thanks every one! I feel so special!
And now, without further ado . . .
First, I went through all the comments left on the all-important Calendar Contest entry and copied the “posted by” lines into Excel, and then sorted it alphabetically by name.
Then–since I have nobody else in the house at the moment to pick a random number for me–I went here to have one generated for me.
They picked number 35, the comment (dating November 10th at 10:04 AM) belonging to Deb at Wound Too Tight.
I think this is particularly apropos–even though it was totally random–because, well, not only is her name Deb, but her husband and I have the same birthday. How cool is that, huh?
Three skeins of Misti Alpaca lace yarn in my favorite shade of green, plus . . . because this WAS a Calendar Contest . . . a cute little “Passport to the World” mini calendar for 2007 that I picked up at the bookstore today.
Congratulations, Deb!
Oh, and for the record? The local Lite FM station started playing Christmas music today. All Christmas music, all the time . . . and it’s not even Thanksgiving yet! I really do like Christmas music, but . . . sheesh!

Tannenbaum.
House Calls

i won’t listen to christmas music until after thanksgiving, but when i was in walmart in council bluffs (across the missouri river from omaha), they were playing christmas music. on november 15th! ugh.
and those shoes are wolf whistle pretty. everybody needs a sassy pair of shoes
The Sketchers are the more appealing pair if you ask me.
The station that normally gives me my 80s music fix just switched to holiday tunes today too. Way too early. It’s enough to turn me into Ebeneezer.
Congratulations to Deb! Kismet. That was a fun contest.
Those shoes are fabulous. I love the velvet stripe at the toe. It’s Christmas! (as evidenced by Christmas music - before Thanksgiving? Ye gads) and you clearly have to have fabulous shoes for the season.
ooohh-la-la is right.
those shoes has gorgeous
ooh - I love both pairs, but I should mention I’m a recovering shoe-a-holic
ah you’re too kind deb! and if i may say so, those shoes are the kind of shoes you need to find occasions to wear. don’t let ‘em get lonely in the dark depths of your closet — they’re too beautiful!
I never could wear heels that high, but since the smashed ankle, a heel more than 1 1/2 inches is out of the question. Sob. And I totally forgot your calendar contest…had a cute cat calendar page photographed and everything!
Those shoes are pretty terrific!
I do love those shoes - they’re definitely fabulous! It’s also appropriate that Deb win your calendar contest because she’s ALSO fabulous, and deserves something nice! And now I understand the comments by the local oldies station - they said something like “while other stations are in a rush to play Christmas carols, we are waiting until after Thanksgiving” - our local Lite station must also be doing it.
Oh those shoes… I’m not a shoe lover… especially if they have heels, but those are gorgeous… I can see them with a black skirt like this one http://www.sewingpatterns.com/index-vogue.html item number 7832v, a simple black top and just maybe a necklace in the color of the velvet stripe.
The sketchers are nice too LOL… more my kind of shoe
Cheers Eva
First of all, GREAT shoes. And I say that as someone who doesn’t care much about shoes in general. Gorgeous.
Second, in the car yesterday my daughter discovered an all-Christmas song station and we listened and sang along. Grudgingly. And they played Jingle Bell Rock twice in under two hours. WTF?
Nice shoes! Love DSW, I get most of my shoes there too
Nothing wrong with a “slightly” impractical pair of shoes once in while. They seem to “start” Christmas earlier every year.
I love the shoes! I LOVE those shoes! I just absolutely love those shoes! What size do you wear? Could I possibly borrow them if I just happen to be in the area? I promise to return them. Really.
Love the shoes, and a pretty classic style too. I agree that you HAD to buy them!
Ooh-la-la shoes! I hope you find a place to wear them.
I love the pumps. They’re screaming for chocolate brown velvet or satin, huh? You’ll wear them. We always need something special for those unplanned, but special occasions. And, congrats to Deb on the calendar contest.
Congrats, Deb!!
I went shoe shopping with my SIL on Friday and was freshly reminded why I mostly wear Birks and mens shoes… There just aren’t cute shoes for my wide size 11 feet. You’re lucky!!
Deb - Will be interested to hear how you like “Team of Rivals”. We also just bought it this weekend (in paperback after I hefted the hard cover edition and said no way - I carry my books on the bus to NYC every day). We met and heard Doris Kearns Goodwin speak on Friday and she was fabulous - hence the purchase. Her talk was so anecdotal in such a low-key, easy way you would have sworn she had met and worked with these (long-dead) gentlemen.

Congratulations to Deb :o)
ohmyGodIlovethoseSHOES!!!!! ;o)
Gah. Our local Lite station started on Monday the 13th! Gah! I think it cheapens Thanksgiving to start Christmas so early. Ok, it’s also true that my favorite holiday happens to be Thanksgiving and this whole early Christmas eclipsing and cheapening my favorite holiday thing steams me a smidge.
Those shoes are Divine! I think you should wear them to the office simply so others can admire them! I wore 4″ heels at my wedding so I could look less dwarfish next to my 6′ tall hubby. I still look for opportunities to wear them even now, they are that comfy and gorgeous.
Definitely fab-o shoes, even cooler looking in person!
Congratulations to Deb! Those are really lovely shoes! :0)
Totally cool pumps, gf! I love ‘em.
Great shoes! I’m okay as long as the stations aren’t ALL playing all Christmas music. Options are good.
