Yarny Sunday

It seems like forever since I showed any knitting or spinning progress, but I wouldn’t want you to think I’ve been slacking.
Here (along with a pair of polka-dot socks) are three skeins of yarn that I’ve just finished spinning.
The two peachy-colored ones are from the roving I was given as a RAOK in December. The gray is the really twisty yarn I mentioned the other day. I ran it through the wheel a second time, and it’s still off-balance. I decided that I’d soak it and let it dry first, though, before worrying any more about it. I THINK it’s under-plied, but still am not sure. I’ve got it doubled-over the towel-bar and have one of Chappy’s old collars clipped over the bottom, providing just a modicum of weight . . . we’ll see how it looks when it dries.
I did not participate in International Pajama Day today. First, because I pretty much NEVER hang out in my PJs. I get dressed as soon as I’m out of bed in the morning; the only time I wear my pajamas around the house is after my shower at night. And also, because my friend Cindy came over today. She took advantage of my ball winder and swift to wind lots and lots of merino/mohair that she brought back from her trip to New Zealand last year. We also had a lesson in knitting two socks at the same time. AND I gave her cake and a present for her birthday last week.
Otherwise, no, I am not watching the Super Bowl tonight (not even the commercials), but I have watched a ridiculous amount of the Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl–all those puppies romping around, with those cute little faces, and that fluffy, fuzzy fur . . . who can resist? It’s surprisingly captivating . . . and, don’t forget, they have a kitten half-time show . . .
One last thing–do go and check out Debby’s page for the Get Your Guts In Gear drive–a good cause for her husband AND her cat, since both of them suffer from Chrohn’s Disease and Irritable Bowel Syndrome. A healthy digestive system is priceless, people, so please, head over and support Chris’s 210 mile in 3 days bike ride.

Tannenbaum.

Thanks very much for the mention Deb! Charlie and I really appreciate your support!! Please give Chappy a hug from us both too!
don’t worry about missing the commercials, they weren’t that great. in fact the GM/Cheverolet commercials were weird. i did not need to see that many men in their skivvies. oy.
and Prince? lame. he only sang 2 songs that were his, and i kept waiting for him to go up in a cloud of sparks & screams because they made him play in the rain.
There must be something in our name. I’m always amazed at what we have in common when I read your posts! I too, never wear my pyjamas except right before I go to sleep, and I don’t watch the Superbowl. I agree with everything you’ve ever written about books, most recently about the spine-breaking. I twitched when I read that, LOL.
Thank you and Chappy SO much for supporting us in the GYGIG ride. We have never done anything like this before, but it feels like the right thing to do, to support a cause that has had so much impact in our house. I laughed when I read what you wrote, that a healthy digestive system is priceless — truly!! Chris had so much jello to eat the year he was sick that he winces whenever someone even mentions the word now, LOL.
The dog enjoying the spotlight as a “dalmatian” was pretty cute, and maybe the crabs that stole the beer cooler. But that was it. *I* was thrilled with the game outcome but then again, I’m football-obsessed.
Did you try the thwacking trick with the twisty yarn? That has worked for me on a couple of occasions – but it might not work if it’s underplied…
As for Super Bowl commercials…you didn’t miss much.
I would love to have participated in international pajama day – but it’s Sunday – and they would have probably looked at me funny during church. Well then again maybe not, they do know me well. I used to weight my yarn but then one of my guild members told me it was a bad thing to do – because it’s only a temporary saving of the yarn. Next time it gets wet it will be off balance again. Now I do do the whacking thing and that does seem to help even things out a bit, plus I really just like to whack things around at times.
LOL – I couldn’t get the purpose of the Puppy Bowl! Very puzzling as we clicked by it…
I too did not watch the super bowl, but I did watch the puppy bowl. How could I not. I just loved all those pups running around, especially the bull dog and the golden retriever.
Yes, there are some times I really wish we had cable-I wanted to see the Puppy Bowl. The closest I got was Honey “attacking” Sis and slobbering all over her neck. As I discovered when I petted Sis.
I knit between commercials.
