All’s Quiet

It’s been a quiet day here. I had taken the day off from work, knowing that I was going to be tired from my fun-filled weekend, so basically, I just hung around.
Well, I did keep myself busy. For example, I washed my two new skeins of yarn. The one of merino-silk that I finished a week or so ago, and the Big Yellow Taxi I finished at Liz’s.
I used my new swift to wind off the bobbin-full of merino-silk. You’ll be pleased to know that it worked fine, although there was a hitch or two. Like, it’s beautifully made, but it’s fairly light, so as I was spinning it around to wind on the yarn, it kept sliding around on my carpet. That made it just a little tricky. But still, it worked just fine.
I’ve got my sweater pieces blocked, too. I actually did this the other day, and they seem much happier, better behaved, and, well, flatter. No more crazy curling on the edges.
I’ve got the sleeves to about, oh, three inches long now. So, you know, we’re just zipping along (grin).
I finally got through my pile of backed-up magazines, too. I mean, I wasn’t that far behind, but I did have two issues of the Smithsonian sitting there, waiting, so I was at least a month behind . . . and you know how I hate that kind of thing. (Speaking of the Smithsonian, did you see that article of the glasswork of Dale Chihuly? Be sure to look at the pictures. I remember when Liz went to see the exhibit in St. Louis last summer, too. Amazing stuff.)
Okay . . . tired now! Work tomorrow . . . Zzzzzz…..

Tannenbaum.
House Calls

you finished the big yellow taxi! can’t wait to see how a closeup looks.
i was busy spinning something very similar this weekend, lol! i had some roving from pigeonroof studios on etsy, called twisted, that was yellow, orange, red and brown. it came out quite interesting, to be sure!
Dale Chihuly had an exhibition here in Fort Wayne about 3 years ago that I attended…I really enjoyed it, but what I really loved was spotting his glass installations throughout Venice last Spring!
Ack! You had to remind me about being behind on magazines! Ack!!
also, i was just over at sock madness, and chappy won again!
Sometimes you just need a laid back day. I hate getting behind on magazines too!
I cannot WAIT to see your finished sweater! Hooray!
I don’t know if in the US you have these, but here in Lux we have small felt rounds that you can glue under chair/table feet to prevent them from marking floors. Maybe if you put those under your swift, it won’t slip on the carpet anymore…
The yarns look gorgeous
Cheers Eva
The yarns look gorgeous, and your sweater pieces… expectant. Does having them blocked now make you want to get the sleeves done faster? I think it would me. LOL
I would get some sort of non-slip grippers for under the feet on the swift. Lovely spinning, even if it was tricky to wind….
I love Chihuly. He was commissioned to design art glass for the Belligo casino in Vegas. I love the glass in the lobby and try to go into the lobby when I go to Vegas.
To keep the swift in place you may try a piece of rug gripper… I know we use it to keep futon mattress from slipping and for all sorts of things other than keeping rugs in place
Your yarns look lovely hanging there!
Pretty yarn! Tacoma has a Museum of Glass, with a nice exhibit of Chihuly’s work, and a glass workshop that you can visit. When you come visit me, you can check it out! My favorite work of his has to be the Bellagio exhibit in Las Vegas that Sheila mentioned.
