Who’s Got the Button?
My issue of Interweave Knits came yesterday and I must say, I’m impressed. They had a “classic” theme for this issue, so there’s nothing too trendy or too weird, but it’s got some very nice designs. That cover sweater, for example. In fact, there are a couple in there that could be candidates for that Sublime yarn I bought in July. I mean, of course, the gauge from the label doesn’t fit, but when does my gauge EVER fit?
Because, you know, I’m going to be looking for a new sweater to knit some time soon, because I’m almost to the top of my Autumn Rose. As in, four more rows from casting off the body. There’ll still be the steek to cut and the neckband to knit, but . . . almost done.
I know, I’m impressed, too.
My magazine is sitting on top of the skirt I wore yesterday. A lovely little, button-up-the-front, A-line, plaid skirt that I bought last month, back when it was still too warm to wear a wool skirt. Finally, finally, it was its chance to get out of the closet (along with the cute boots I bought in August). So, I put it on, wore it to the office and . . . half an hour later, I spotted the lowest button on the floor in the hallway. Okay, these things happen, but jeez, it had been out of the closet for all of two hours. Luckily, I keep a sewing kit in my desk a couple minutes later, it was fixed. I went about my day, and when I came home at lunch, Mom and I took Chappy for a walk. Halfway around the block, I glanced down . . . the second lowest button was gone. Oooookay . . . We turned around and headed back to retrace our route. By sheer chance, I spotted the almost-black button on the black street surrounded by leaves. (In fact, look at that picture again . . . can you see the button?) I would have had time to sew it on before heading back to the office, but somehow, I didn’t feel like taking the chance.
I changed into a different skirt before going back to work. If the next button-up had fallen off, things would have gotten . . . unprofessional, you know? I have the feeling I should tighten all the buttons before wearing it again, don’t you?
Now, it’s Friday and Chappy is a very happy boy tonight–my niece is visiting, and he just LOVES having extra people here! In fact, tomorrow, we’ll have a full house because my sister, brother-in-law, and nephew will all be coming, too, for some birthday cake (which I baked for myself after work). I’m looking forward to it! But, I don’t know, I think Chappy might be even happier than I when they get here….

Tannenbaum.
House Calls

Happy birthday! And I cannot blame you at all for being suspicious of those buttons at that point.
I HATE it when that happens with new clothes. What a pain.
I can’t decide what to make from the new IK. I like the cover sweater, but someone just gave me a pretty similar commercial one, so I think I’ll see how much I bother to wear the one I own before I commit to IK’s version.
Close call on those buttons! I loved the cover of the new IK, and I thought most of the designs were unusually good (meaning, knittable!), but I really dislike the new layout. Last issue didn’t bother me too much, but this one seemed muddled, hard to see. And have they changed the paper, too? Anyway, Happy Birthday! I always have to bake my own cakes, too.
I like this new issue too! The cabled bag especially caught my eye. I had some skirt issue like that recently-I think when I was at the governor’s house! It was one of the middle-top buttons, undone. Happy birthday!
Oh, that means mine should be in the mail next week or so!!! For once I had a look at the preview and I saw several sweaters that I liked. I am going to make that cardi too, using some Jamieson’s Shetland yarn that I got on sale this summer….
Can’t wait hehehe.
Cheers Eva
Happy birthday! Which day is the actual birthday?
I love this issue! There are at least 3 sweaters in there I really, really want to do. One or two will be on the needles very soon, I think. (Oh, and I think that skirt would go beautifully with the cover sweater, at least in the color they made it in…)
Happy Birthday!
As for the IK, didn’t find much in it this time that excited me. The celtic bag and maybe a few stitch patterns off some of the things in there.
Well, the most excited I got was seeing an advertisement for the Rat Race scarf. That was too cute.
That is just stinky when new clothes act this way. I have a wool pea coat I bought for my daughter and ALL of the buttons were loose. One had falled off before she told me they were loose, but luckily she had found it and kept it for me to sew back on.
I love the Celtic bag in the new IK and there was one or two sweaters in there that caught my eye, but the rest seemed to be geared for very small people. I am not huge – 5’10 and just a bit on the fluffy side, but I am big boned to boot and most of the styles in this issue just wouldn’t work for me.
I love the skirt – even if it does drop buttons left and right. ;o) That sweater would look great with it, btw.

Eunny’s doing a fabulous job with the magazine so far, isn’t she? I just love the new issue. You sure lucked out finding both buttons!
