Postal Fun

All this converting is exhausting! And, folks, don’t forget to re-subscribe to the new feed. There’s a link right up there on the top right to make it easy for you. Because you know I want you to find your way back!

Now, for the fun part. I was very popular with our assorted mail-carriers and delivery services today.

Goodie Box See? Here’s my loot all nicely piled into one box for easy carrying up the stairs.

Yarn in my Dyelot! Top of the list? My extra Karabella Aurora 8 in the correct dyelot, from Flying Fingers yarn (located in Tarrytown, NY). Not only was there the yarn I ordered (did I mention it was in the right dyelot?), but there was a hand-written note thanking me for my order and a skein of bonus yarn. I admit, it’s a little “novelty” for my taste, but I’m not objecting because I think it was awfully nice of them anyway.

Stitch Markers Then there were the stitch-markers. Had I mentioned that I got a copy of Cat Bordhi’s new sock book for Christmas? Well, alphabetical stitch markers were definitely going to be helpful, so, I ordered some from Hide and Sheep on Etsy. And also one of their increase/decrease markers, and a five-row row-counter, just because. (Yes, I know, I’m trying to save money, but, well, you have to make the postage worth the effort, right?)

Lamb's Tail Then there was the Lamb’s Tail Strand Holder from Fibre-Art. (And, hey, leave me alone. It was only $10….)

Lamb's Tail 2 It’ a clever little gizmo that holds the strand of fiber you’re spinning when it’s time to take a break. Don’t ask me why it photographed in two such different colors, though–in real life, its color is closer to the first picture. The second picture is so you can see it in action. I need to shorten the yarn tying it to the wheel, though–it’s too long and it kept wanting to play with the wheel . . . that could cause trouble!

Anyway, as you can see, I was very popular today. Certainly it brightened up the Monday. Although I can’t complain about the weather, it was just gorgeous today. 65 degrees and sunny is almost unheard of in January.

Hey–question for you. The links in this post? They should be blue until you’ve clicked them. When you hover, they should be underlined and green . . . but after they’ve been viewed, they should be a dark bluish-purple and underlined. On my computer, at least, the “viewed” settings don’t seem to be working. To me, once clicked, the links are dark, dark blue and just blend in with the regular text, making it hard to find them again. Is this just me? And, why would those settings not be working correctly?

  1. At one point I did know how to change that… but can I remember now? You’re right, it’s hard to tell the difference between the two blues… just checked my own page and the color changes from a brownish to a reddish brown once viewed (and just underlined when hovered). If I get it, I’ll let you know…

  2. Looks blue and blended to me…not underlined.

That lamb’s tail thing is way cool!

  3. I thought when i set up the theme that I got to make the choices as to color of link, hover, visited… but don’t see the easy way to do it. The techie way is to go into your dashboard, presentation tab, theme editor, and if the stylesheet (or css) isn’t the one that comes up, choose it from the list of files for the theme (on my theme, it’s on the right). You can scroll through that. You’ll see a couple of places where there is a color indicated for link on one line, and a couple lines below for hover, then visited. You’re looking for where there are three different numbers for the colors here (so likely not the link/hover/visited in the first lines where you see it). I’d guess that looking for “text decoration: underline” might help you find it. You should write down what the color # is, and then maybe you can change it…see what happens? Not sure where you can go to get the color number key.

  4. Nope, not underlined after clicking. Um, I haven’t looked at those settings for a long, long time… In style.css maybe??

Oh, if this happens to be a WP theme that comes with a standard WP install, you should give the folder a special name. Otherwise it will get moved to an archive folder the next time you upgrade WP. I just added _Custom to my theme folder name.

I love Hide & Sheep markers!

  5. Exactly–it SHOULD be changing the visited links but it’s not. But when I change the instructions for the SIDEBAR links, for some reason, it works. Don’t ask me why. Computers are just confusing!

  6. I’m viewing via Safari (on a Mac), and my viewed links are underlined, but the same blue as the unviewed links (just to throw another variation into the mix…)

  7. Congratulations on your new blog home! It looks very nice so far. I use Wordpress too and I find it really hard picking a theme that has everything that I want and it is so much work to change once you get things set up. My biggest challenge is to get it to look right in IE. I think I have just given up at this point!
Anyway, I wanted to comment on your strand holder because I have never seen anything like that! What a cool idea!

  8. SAme as Judy H for me - after clicking same blue, but underlined. I’m on Vista, by the way.

  9. Great mail day! Once I click on the link it becomes underlined but is the same blue as the unviewed links.

  10. The link stays blue even after I clicked on it. Nice box of yarn, although the novelty yarn frightened me. I LOVE the increase/decrease stitch marker. Pure genius.

  11. For me, the links are staying the same blue after clicking and are not underlined. The hover settings seem to be working, though.

  12. Thanks for the great link to Etsy! I haven’t been there before and now I must go place an order! Oh, and I want one of those fiber holder thingies too. The links stay the same after I click on them, but it doesn’t bother me.

  13. Welcome to your new home! It looks great, and I can’t even imagine what you went through with the move. I would subscribe but I am such a luddite I can’t figure out how, so I’ll be the one inflating you visitor stats by checking every day to see if you’ve posted.

Thanks also for the link to Andy’s last post..
