Serene Sunday
Beautiful, sunny, blue sky, with sparkly trees to boot.
Homemade coffee cake for tomorrow’s breakfast.
Homemade Grandma Cake just because we needed something to celebrate.
A sad, battered tree. (Stupid Woodpeckers.)
…Which is the right-half of this “V”. And, luckily, is the half that leans away from the house.
A well-romped backyard. (The “double” tree at the very left edge of the picture is the one being attacked.)
Chappy, examining his yard, and deciding whether it still looks rompable. (Because, you understand, once it gets crusty on top, it’s not nearly so pleasant to the paw!)
A chipmunk, venturing out into the snow.
A manuscript, ready to go out into the cold, cruel world. (Send it good luck vibes, please!)
The taxes I didn’t get around to doing because I was too busy baking things in the kitchen.
And, an FO for Mom! She’s been working on this counted cross-stitch since April 2006.

Tannenbaum.
House Calls

Usually the woodpeckers are after insects under the bark. So the tree’s days maybe numbered, but not because of the woodpeckers, they are helping slow down the trouble! Who’d a thunk it, eh?

I was going to post something very similar to what Carol did - since woodpeckers eat beetles and carpenter ants, having them on a tree usually means that things aren’t good inside said tree…
Good vibes to your manuscript! And congrats to your mom for finishing that project!
*sigh* I need to do my taxes, too.

Good luck with your manuscript!
As for the battered tree, is it really the woodpeckers’ fault? (I’m guessing they are after the bugs that get into a decaying, already-diseased or dying tree….)
And also congrats to your mom. I have a 20-year-old cross stitch still waiting to be finished, even though I’ve lost the pattern. Wish me luck…

Those woodpeckers are lumberjacks! I’d take baking over taxes any day. The coffee cake and grandma cake look delicious. Mom’s cross stitch is beautiful! What a lot of hard work went into making that.
Good vibes, good vibes, thrice good vibes!
Uh-oh, those random borings seem concentrated in one spot now. Not good.
What an amazingly ornate x-stitch! Congratulations to Chappysgrandma! Are there further plans for it?

Kudos to Mom!
I’m so wanting the recipe for Grandma cake…I know, it’s probably a family secret…argh! It looks amazing though.
Um… recipe please for both cakes. I’m drooling over here for that chocolate.
Good luck with the manuscript! I’m keeping my fingers crossed!

Well, the coffee cake recipe is from Cook’s Illustrated–and it’s in the original “Best” recipes cookbook. Really good recipe. (Really good cookbook!) As for the other cake, well, that’s my grandmother’s recipe…. yellow butter cake and chocolate frosting. It’s a classic!
And, thank you!
Good luck w/the ms!
Your Mom’s cross stitch is just gorgeous! Wow.
Chappy is so. darn. cute! Romping in the snow or gazing out the window.
And that’s good news about the woodpeckers. I was hoping it didn’t bode ill for the tree.

Good luck with your manuscript! Yay! At least someone showed a bit of interest, right? I’ll cross my fingers and toes for you that this is the beginning of something. :o)
You’re cruel with the baked goods, btw, Did I not mention I am on a diet? Ohwait, a “lifestyle change”, not a ‘diet’. Whatever. Ohyeah and I’m at the cranky stage. ;o)
