Bridge

052308--003 I had the day off from work today and since it was SO much prettier than last Friday, Mom and I went out … to the bookstore! (Ooooh.) Well, it makes ME happy, anyway, and I picked up The Great Bridge: The Epic Story of the Building of the Brooklyn Bridge by David McCullough. It’s a book I’ve planned on reading for ages, but since it’s its 125th birthday tomorrow, I figured now was the time.

Of course, what I should have done was go to a yarn shop and pick up 16″ needles for the sleeve of my sweater. I’m doing the Magic Loop thing which should be fine (I’ve certainly done it often enough on other things like necks and sleeves as well as socks) but since I only have the correct needle in two lengths–24″ and 47″–I’m using the longer one and all that extra, curly cable is driving me nuts. And tomorrow I have to bake a cake and do some birthday stuff, so I don’t have time to run to Montclair to pick up the correct needle (and Nonna’s doesn’t carry the Addi Lace needles in the right size, I’ve already checked). Sigh. I suppose I could try another brand and keep my fingers crossed about the gauge?? (gulp)

052208--022 It was a pretty quiet day, though. Nice and sunny, and in the mid- to upper-60s with a breeze. Chappy got out for his first walk since something like last Thursday, which has made him a little blue. It was a short one, since I was so tired (yes, sorry), but he didn’t care. He was just glad to be OUT. I took a nap this afternoon, too.

And, okay, he’s not really, literally blue. I had reset the White Balance on my camera the other night to try to capture the colors in my sweater more accurately–the light in my bedroom is rather yellow–and I forgot to change it back when I pulled my camera out yesterday. I didn’t realize until I’d taken this picture of Chappy and saw him looking blue rather than chocolate.

052208--009 052208--008 Which also explains why these pictures of the pine tree out back came out rather blue, themselves….

And, isn’t this a great story about a search-and-rescue dog who got the perfect reward for her life of helping others?

Have a good weekend, everyone.
