Coffee Wars

062808_0008 Isn’t this a nice face to wake up to? When I got out of bed this morning, Chappy draped himself over the ottoman (his hind legs are on the floor behind it) and just looked so cute, I reached for the camera, even before putting on my slippers. He does this all the time–on weekends, as soon as I actually get out of bed (where we’ve already said good morning), he heads over to the ottoman and we say good morning again. That’s the kind of boy Chappy is–the more “good mornings” he can squeeze into a morning, the happier he is!

062708_0032 I know, such a shock that I thought he was cute, huh? My family laughs at me every time I look at Chappy and say, “Oh, how cute!” but, well, he IS!

062808_0021 And if all that cuteness isn’t enough to wake a girl up in the morning, well, there are plenty of opportunities for caffeine in town, since Starbucks reopened the other day, after being closed since December. But now they’ve got some serious competition–right there, across the street, in Starbucks’ old location, is Smart World coffee. We’ve been anticipating this coffee stare-down for months now, and it’s finally here. I mean, our town isn’t THAT big, you know? And there’s Mara’s, the independent coffee shop/bakery around the corner, too. Three businesses dedicated to serving people coffee and baked goods, all clustered around the same intersection.

062808_0012 After our coffee, Mom and I went to DSW to take advantage of my coupon for shoes, and I bought these very cute Rocket Dog ballet flats. Comfortable, and they should look good with skirts, and so will be great for work. I know what you’re thinking–I just bought a computer I couldn’t really afford, what am I doing buying shoes? But the thing is, I have the hardest time coming up with footwear in the summer. (I even started a thread on Ravelry the other day.) I hate wearing sandals, and I’ve got tender, sensitive feet who complain about stiff shoes, so when wearing shoes “barefoot” (as in, no socks or stockings), they’ve got very particular requirements about softness and such. It’s HARD finding footware that isn’t too hot, isn’t too hard on my prima-donna-ish feet, looks acceptable with skirts for work, and, oh yeah, aren’t too expensive. So … just, don’t pick on me, okay? I resisted the siren call of the bookstore today, doesn’t that count for something?

Oh, and good news, the new computer was shipped and should be here on Tuesday. In the meantime, Mom and Dad have been sharing his computer very nicely. First Mom’s car, now Dad’s computer … I wonder what they’ll be sharing next!

062708_0038 Otherwise? It’s been a hot and muggy day, which means no walk for Chappy. It’s just downright icky–but then, you all know I hate summer weather. Especially hot, humid summer weather. And tomorrow I get to go to a barbeque … weather-wise, I am NOT looking forward to that at all, though the event (best friend’s father’s surprise 70th birthday) itself should be nice.

  1. Hee hee - I’m always telling May how cute she is, so I can relate. :) I can also relate to the shoe thing, albeit for slightly different reasons. Can’t aggravate my incipient bunion. Must have good arch support. Can’t hit my ankle in the wrong way, or that’ll be aggravated. Etc…

Hopefully the cool front that chased away our muggy weather yesterday makes it out to you!

  2. I know what you mean about being picky about shoes. Mostly in the summer I live in my Birkenstocks. Actually, mostly in the winter, too. :-)

And aren’t dogs wonderful? No matter how sleepy and grumpy you are in the morning, or tired in the evening, they wag their whole body and make you smile!

  3. Chappy is utterly adorable and can’t be told that often enough.

I can totally relate on the shoe thing! I’m not fond of slingbacks or sandals because they just kill my heels and feet but closed shoes can be so hot and desperately require socks that I don’t want to wear.

So clearly shoes that can be worn easily in the summer MUST be bought. Possibly in duplicate and mulitiple colors.

Carrie K’s last blog post..Jury Duty! But first, whining.
