Your new border solution looks like a terrific compromise. Don’t you want to scream when you realize that your first choice means you will run out of yarn before it’s done? Can’t wait to see it finished and learn all the details (size, yardage, etc.) and how you like it.

BTW an elderly friend who does plastic canvas work was using a plastic yarn needle with a MUCH smaller eye than the new ones I have seen. She said she got it just a couple of months ago in the cross-stitch section of her local Jo-Anns! Might be worth checking out! I know how much you miss your old favorite.
