Turning the Corner
Here’s a look at my border.
I like it, but am wondering if it’s just a little TOO cramped–that I should have added at least one or two stitches to either side of the wavy cable, so it wouldn’t be bumping into the edge?
And I rounded the first corner last night. I’m not entirely sure how I feel about this. I like the outer-edge, and think I got the proportions for the miter just right (on the third try), but am thinking it would be better if I had just finished the “waves” instead of trying to maneuver them around the corner. It’s possible I might tear this corner out tonight and try it again.
What do you think? (Although, I realize that by the time you answer I’ll probably have made my decision, but still!)
And, you MUST go watch this Extreme Sheep-herding Video that Knitgrrl linked to. Hurry for creative shepherds!
Then, when you’re tired of high-tech, wonder sheep and sheepdogs, go spend some restful time with the MVFF flock, because Susan and her crew have finally got the Lambcam up and running, so you can watch the sheep and goats just hanging out … and when the lambs start arriving any time now, this is going to be GREAT fun.
Now, since it’s possible my book-space is going to be severely curtailed in the not too distant future, I’m wondering if it would be worth my while to invest in a Kindle–books without needing the shelf space, which is a plus, but … they’re so darn expensive, and yet such a very cool toy. And … minimal storage space. Easily portable. Hmmm.

Oooohhhh! I like your border, Debbie, but I agree with you about the corner. The outer edge is perfect, but the waves take away from the clean lines of the waves. It sure is beautiful, though.
Deb, it’s gorgeous. Great use of Sylvi pattern!

I think the border’s looking good!
I’m resisting the temptation of the Kindle and the Sony. I think we’re still 1-2 years out from a good ebook platform. Also, I’m not so impressed by how Amazon has its own proprietary format and a pretty locked down system.

i would go for a clean corner as I find the cable turn a little too sharp and distracting.

It’s looking lovely. I wouldn’t worry about the closeness to the border, it doesn’t looked cramped to me. I’m not sure on the corner – I am sure you’ll decide what works best for you! What does Chappy think?

I’m not going to weigh in on the corner as I think either option would look good. I do have some opinions on the Kindle.
Kirk got a Kindle and we love it. The fact that we don’t have more paper books coming into the house is great as we have no book shelves and the basement is getting full.
But beyond that not worrying about losing your place is nice, and the design is smart and well thought out. I hope I’ll get to borrow his Kindle sometimes, but for all of Kirk’s travelling this is a great way to take multiple books with him since he reads so quickly. I read much slower so I don’t really need my own.
We talked about investing in this since the initial cost is steep and if it was worth it or not. I think for my husband it is well worth it. I think it is also well worth it to anyone who lives with limited space, travels a lot, reads many books at once, or anyone who is concerned about their impact on the environment as paper is spared etc… It is a wonderful way to get your daily newspapers too. If you read them. Kirk has subscribed to the NY Times and is really enjoying being able to read it each day without having to go out and buy it or searching online for each article.
Kirk subscribes to the WSJ, not the NY Times. I had it confused.
Beautiful! I like how the edge turned out.
I don’t think I would buy a Kindle. I like the feel of a book in my hands and to keep new books from overwhelming my house, I go to the library. If a boook is really special or something I will read over and over, then I buy.

I like the cable rounding the border but I’m sure whatever you’ve decided will look good!

That is outstanding! I like the border just the way it is, but that is as a noncritical observer impressed with the whole thing (which is what everyone but you will be).
