Island Home
We came over to the island on the newest ferry, the Island Home. Which is HUGE.
Here’s just a part of its freight deck (you know, where the cars and trucks go). Please note the extra row of available parking suspended from the ceiling.
(Not that it was needed today.)
They have handy maps posted around, so you don’t get lost. Which is convenient because, did I mention that this ferry is really, really big?
There certainly are plenty of seats.
Lots, and lots of seats.
It’s been kind of a gray day, but no complaints. We’re HERE, after all, and Chappy did NOT get sick in the car. The dogs we’re dog-sitting are charming and friendly, as are Patti, Julie, and their kids. They’re leaving early in the morning, but we’re so glad we got to see them first!
Okay … tired now …

Tannenbaum.
House Calls

Kisses to you all and the island. I’m glad you arrived safely. Love you!
oooh – I hope we get that ferry when we go to the island in August! Nice!
We took the Island Home over on our trip last year. It is indeed HUGE. My nephew (six years old at the time) was FASCINATED by the suspended parking in the freight deck.
I’ve got a request in to the realtor for this year’s MV vacation! Fingers crossed that the house we want is still available during the week we want!

Those monster ferries are always kind of amazing – I hadn’t experienced them until I was in NW Washington state and British Columbia.
That’s much nicer than the ferry I took there over the summer. I am hoping to get over there again soon. So pretty!

Thanks so much for the ferry pics! WA State is building the same boat (with a few modifications) for the Whidbey Island-Pt. Townsend run. It’s about a 30 minute ride, but there are weird currents and tides that make it a difficult run, so they needed a sturdy boat plan. Right now they are running a really small boat that is fondly referred to as the bathtub toy, and they have to cancel sailings whenever the winds puffs.
I have to kind of laugh, because if you think that boat is big, you should see the one that runs from the mainland to Whidbey. Two car parking decks, and the passenger deck is on the third floor. If I get out of the car to go upstairs, I have to really take note of where I am parked and which doors I am using, because if you forget, it all kind of looks the same! LOL!

What fun to ride on the ferry. Did Chappy get to walk around with you, or did he have to wait in the car?
