For Sale, Vol 1

Well, you KNOW how much I love my books. You know how big my library is, and how much I absolutely hate getting rid of books … and yet. I really have no choice but to get rid of some.

So … under duress, you understand, and no reflection at all on the quality of these books … Some knitting books for sale.

All the books are in pristine condition, with the sole exception of the History of Knitting, which I got from the Interweave Hurt Books sale (and its only “hurt” is that it’s missing the paper cover). This is a smoke-free home, as you know, although there could be some dog fur involved–Chappy works hard at that–but all the books are kept in my closet, so they’re as clean and perfect as I can possibly make them.

The rules? They’re being sold as groups because otherwise trying to coordinate this is insane. The price for U.S. Book Rate postage is included. If you’re outside the U.S., additional postal costs may apply. Payment will be accepted via Paypal, though if you’re local, cash works, too (grin). The first person to claim and pay for each lot is the lucky person who gets it. I’m pretty sure I have packaging available for each group, so it shouldn’t take me too long to get things in the mail–no more than a week (although, come to think of it, I need to buy stamps). Please ask questions if you  have them! (Note that while I can check basic email from work, I’m limited in what I can do from my desk at the office, so I’ll trust the comments to keep things in sequence for me.)

Now, in the event that any of these are left standing after, say, a week or so, I’ll break them up or mix them around some more, or something. It really kills me to get rid of these, but … I keep telling myself that if I make enough money selling some of the books that I need to  weed out, I’ll buy myself a Kindle–so I can buy some more books without feeling guilty about the space!

(Next up? Cookbooks and some other craft-type books. You people like to cook, right?)

  1. [...] cut down my library, I’m selling some of my knitting books–come check out the list at Chappysmom.com. It’s a first come, first serve deal. Like what you see? Spread the word! [...]

  2. ooooo – I hate to break this to you, but if you are looking for a Kindle to use for knitting books (with pictures and stuff) you may be disappointed. I have a Kindle and love it for reading fiction, non-fiction – anything that relies mainly on words. But for pictures it is less than ideal since it only has grey scale capability and I don’t know how graphs and stuff will translate since you can change the size of the font which may impact how the graph looks.

I’m not trying to discourage you, I simply want to make sure you are making an informed decision before you put money into a device that may not really suit your needs.

Of course, you may be looking for the kindle to take on trips and/or read trashy mysteries in bed where no one can see the cover of your book and look down their nose at you for reading some ‘pulp novel’. In that case, the kindle is AWESOME.

But that would be pure conjecture on my part….I only read quality stuff! ;-)

  3. Second the above. I have a Sony Ebook and I downloaded some PDF patterns but it is impossible to read the graphs or resize the illustrations. I use it to read/carry around lots of books without the bulk.
Sorry you need to downsize but I have done a purge at the beginning of the summer and I still look at some of what’s left and say “What was I thinking?”

  4. No, no, it’s not just knitting books I’m getting rid of. My fiction and non-fiction books are also being decimated. I’m just afraid to go into a bookstore! The Kindle would be for actual reading, not knitting. (Though I hear they’re handy for cookbooks, too–even in black and white.)

  5. Too bad you’ll only sell them in lots. You have quite a few individual books that I would gladly take off your hands.

  6. Two comments: I have an Apple Itouch. You can download Amazon kindle for the Mac on it. I haven’t tried it yet but I’m sure that you could get help in an Apple store or on the web. I’ll try to see how it works this weekend and let you know.

I can understand how hard it is to get rid of books. As a retired school librarian, purging was impossible. If I got rid of a really old book, some teacher was really mad because it was her favorite. I had to scan each book to see the checkout history. I can’t purge my knitting books. I did get rid of my old fiction and nonfiction when I retired. I took it to a used book store and went shopping there for two years on the credit I earned. Lots of fun.

  7. i wish i could help you out, but i’m broke as ajoke myself.

  8. Can I get Lot 7? I could come by your house tomorrow with cash on my way to NJ Sheep fest @ 10:30? Let me know what works for you.
