Deb, please tell Chappy for us that it will get better. Sarah and Sophia send him some puppy kisses.
I could tell you horror stories about moving as well. Moved in freezing rain from a large house to a 1400 sq ft house on the side of a mtn. The end of my driveway is a cliff and the moving truck got stuck so I drove to store and bought
1000 lbs of rock salt but that didn’t even touch it. My movers worked all day -13 hrs and quit. We had to rent a truck ourselves the next day. etc. etc etc

There are so many things that can go wrong as you know. I’m just pleased you are all safe and sound in your new home and planning on making wonderful new memories.

What company did you use (for future reference, so I never use them). I hope they did not charge you overtime, since they were late to start with AND they were shorthanded. Tell Chappy, that we hope he settles in and that he will find his potty spot soon. I hope you get SOME sleep tonight, and until things settle down, I think his crate is the wisest of choices for Chappy, at least it is familiar and SAFE for him. A few more days and this will all be history and you can start living normally again.

Moving is always a joy. Hmm, I’ve always moved with cats. Well, cat. Hopefully it’ll just take a few days for Chappy to acclimate – having all of “his” stuff and people in the new place will make it pretty clear that Things Have Changed.

Of course, as he now realizes, Change is Evil. However Necessary. It’s okay, Chappy! It’ll work out.

Oh, My. Gosh. 4 AM? I’m not sure why the owner didn’t send the 4 guys. It cost him more to pay those 3 guys overtime!

Just keep breathing. It will all come together.

And so will Chappy…poor little dude!

Poor Chappy! Just think, though. As unsettled and at loose ends as you all are, he is probably even more out of sync. Once you get all your stuff sorted and put away, you’ll all feel much better.

I have yet to hear a story about movers that didn’t involve a price tag WAY over the estimate. I think it’s self perpetuating. If all your competitors are underbidding on purpose, the only way you’ll get business is if you underbid too and then just charge the “real” price at the end. Sometimes, they’ll hold your stuff hostage until you pay, which is really scary. I’ve read and heard some horror stories.

The only experience I’ve had, is with movers we hired in LA to help us unpack our truck when we moved from Boston. it was 103 degrees out and all routes into our apartment were long, winding and filled with stairs. We paid a flat hourly fee and we ended up giving the guys something like a 50% tip because they worked tirelessly and fast.

Oh and yah, Thea has often had trouble understanding that potty time can happen in new locations. She’s getting better because we do take her places a lot but for a little while, after we moved it was a challenge.

Chappy will be great, I just know it.

Wow, it’s never easy is it. But if it were easy anyone could do it. Or it’ll put hair on your chest, or …. oh heck none of those trite little sayings help. I’m sorry it’s been so tough. I hope Chappie settles in soon, and you all do too.

When we moved from the only house our dog had ever known to a new house, he also had some definite issues with going to the bathroom. The first night he peed all over the floor, because he was so confused about which door to go to get out and not having his regular bathroom area (we had trained him to go in a particular spot in the yard at the old house). The look on his face and his behavior was so sad – he was so confused and he knew that he wasn’t supposed to go in the house, but he didn’t know what else to do. It only took him a few days to adjust to the new house/yard, but it was so sad seeing the worried and confused looks on his faces in the meantime. It’ll get better and I’m sure Chappy will adjust in no time!
