Opinion, Please?
Okay, I need an opinion.
Here, as you know, is the center cable on the back of my Aran.
Now, my thought was to take this same exact cable and split it in half where the two front halves meet.
But I’m not sure if I like the way it looks. I don’t hate it, but I don’t know that I love it, either.
What do you think?
I don’t really want to tear out everything, but I COULD drop down these 8 stitches and knit up a different cable at the front edges, but certainly, now is the time to decide.

I like the back cable, but the split cable looks a bit strange….like hair that is becoming ubraided….my $.02
I think in splitting it, you can’t actually tell it’s the same cable anymore, which loses the effect.

Alternative opinion. I like it. It is reminiscent of the original cable, but is different enough to be interesting. Honestly? It’s all in what you like. I have a feeling you don’t like it enough.

Personally, I would do different cables up the front edges. I say go with your gut and mix it up.
Another vote for a different cable up the front. The split one looks a little mushy.

I’m kind of with the others, in that I think it loses something being split. I think it will work if you are not planning on doing button bands. That way if it meets in the middle flush it will look more like the one on the back.
Joining the crowd here…not sure about that front cable split. It doesn’t have the same look as the original cable, nor the pizazz. I think I would go with something different for the front, since it really doesn’t look the same anyway.
I agree with the majority. I think it’s because of the cool way the cable isn’t symmetrical that it doesn’t split as well as it might. I’d pick another one, too.
What did you end up deciding about the width on the front? I gather it’s really fine?

I also agree. It seems to lose some of it’s beauty when split. I love the color of the yarn and the cable on the back.

I’m with you, not love, but not hate, but also like these other folks, it does lose something in the split. Maybe you could continue up from where you are with a zig zag thing going on, and in the first couple of zigs (zags?) put in a not bobble (as in not a bobble, but a small raised area in the middle of the triangle of knit stitches on the purl) and then as you go up lose the “not bobble”…???
